My students love these decodable passages and enjoy practising their phonics skills with these cute stories. With these passages, kids will work on decoding, fluency, and comprehension all at once.

These decodable passages review the short vowel e sound. They list any irregular or high-frequency words for review.

Included in this short vowel a pack are:

  • 4 Decodable stories
  • Each story is in 6 different formats:
    • Passages – highlighting the focus sound and word reading.
    • Full Page Passages with vowels highlighted
    • One page passage with room for own illustration.
    • Foldable books with extra illustrations and practice activities on the back page – segmenting words, reading decodable words and answering a comprehension fill in the blank.
    • Cloze passages – this worksheet has words missing and is a cut and paste style.  Once your student is well acquainted with the story, this activity will be a great extension.
    • Each passage in a small version to collect on a book ring for extra review or take-home practice.

PLUS:-

  • Decodable sentences – each story has 4 decodable sentences that can be cut out and used to put in order or used for sentence-level reading practice.
  • Decodable phrases – to break it down even further for our struggling readers.
  • The best thing about these decodable passages is that they are aligned to a structured literacy progression. This means you won’t find any complex long vowel sounds in there. Exceptions to this are listed in the word list and are usually high-frequency words such as to or of.
