Description
These Digraph ck and Trigraph Worksheets align with a structured literacy approach, including anchor charts, orthographic mapping worksheets, and activities, that are ideal for building confidence with the digraph ck, trigraphs tch and dge, and spelling rules.
Many teachers have found them very useful in consolidating these spelling rules as they teach them and for follow-up review. I use them in my SOR intervention 1-1 tutoring lessons and have seen great success.
These ‘phonics rules for spelling’ worksheets give you everything you need to teach these spelling rules explicitly and give students everything they need to master them.
This resource works well for a structured literacy approach and will help you teach these spelling concepts easily.
This CK DGE & TCH worksheets resources include:-
- Anchor Charts to explain how the spelling rule works. How to know when to use ck vs just k for example. They also show examples of when not to use ck, dge and tch. These can be laminated and displayed on the wall for easy reference.
- Word Mapping sheets help students to attend to the individual sounds in each word. They explicitly teach students that ck, dge and tch come straight after a short vowel. There are plenty of teachable moments in here and they are very hands on worksheets that get students thinking about each sound.
- Coding Worksheets help students to find short vs long vowel words, r-controlled words and words that use the silent (magic) e or vowel teams. They use different codes, underlining and highlighting to further embed the concept of when to use ck or k, dge or ge and tch or ch in words.
- Word Sorts – These activities are a fun hands on way to practice this rule. There are differing levels that include sorting words and writing them into correct lists and then cutting picture activities. The sorts with just pictures help the students to really listen for where the short vowel sound is in relation to the spelling rule that is being taught.
- Black and White Options included
- Answer Keys Included where necessary.
